Building Authentic and Constructive Community
Creating a true, meaningful community stems from two primary impulses: a material necessity, which may vary in importance, and a spiritual aspiration. These two forces—one grounded in earthly matters, the other celestial—find their union and expression at the core of the human being: the heart. It is within our hearts that we can truly focus on the ways, spaces, and timing needed to face the challenges of building a community with others who share this ideal.
A genuine, well-founded community is, at its essence, a collective love story, complete with the light and shadows that accompany any true tale of love. For this reason, it is crucial to carefully tend to what we bring into the group from our hearts. This includes purifying our personal histories to become conscious and responsible custodians of them and learning to manage the threads of light—and shadow—that connect our inner worlds to the external reality. These elements, and much more, form the foundation of our proposed journey toward creating and refining the process of building a community.
From “Doing Community” to “Being Community”
The experience we will explore together revolves around transforming the act of “doing community” into the deeper reality of “being community.” This entails an unconditional reconnection to oneself, embracing both light and shadow, and allowing oneself to see and be seen authentically. It requires distinguishing the person from their role, fostering clarity and integrity within the group.
Being a community is a profound decision—one that calls for knowing oneself to the core through the experience of a deeper, more authentic self and the daily interactions of life shared with others. It means approaching reality with a broad, inclusive vision and discovering what it truly means for each person to include and be included in a genuinely equal and authentic way throughout the entire process.
