The History

We came together as a community after having learned from different elders, traditions and cultures, wanting to take care of a piece of Pacha Mama (Mother Earth in Quechua) in a different way. As members of an intentional eco-community, we were able to experiment and learn. We founded a Nature School with Montessori and Waldorf trained teachers for children up to 14 years, which was the first of its kind in Italy. It became a big success and many schools came to us for training and inspiration. We taught people of all ages about alternative living, schooling and medicine.

We could witness the true power of people young at heart who are taught happiness, consciousness and freedom in a responsible way. That is why we believe that the right setting, with the best teachers and total trust in one another one, we can make the difference in people’s life, as well as ours.

From Pushpa, Our Director:

I got to experience several different schools throughout the years. Among them an awful elementary school in Paris where the children were tortured to eat all our food – luckily that didn’t last long – the Osho School in Pune, and a little village school in the middle of rural Tuscany, to which I'd travel with my brother on our pony.

I retained 100% of the knowledge they transmitted to me. And it will stay with me forever. What was different about this kind of education? I was learning by transmission, resonating with my teachers on a deeper level, feeling their wisdom in action and applying it myself.

But who were my real teachers? Who taught me to live? It was really my grandmother who took me to visit Etruscan tombs or Roman ruins, who told me about special people in history so that I could write my own history one day, and who taught me to listen to the sounds and silences of nature. It was also Olema, our neighbouring farmer. I spent my days with her from a very small age and learned about medicinal herbs, foraging mushrooms, taking care of animals and milking cows, healthy Tuscan cuisine and baking in a bread oven, pruning olives and vineyards, vegetable gardening and managing pests.

At 19, I had it very clear. I was not going to live in a typical family nucleus but I was going to create my own community and start schools.

Against all odds and the people who put me down saying it was impossible, 10 years later, at the age of 29, I was leading a small hamlet village with a fantastic group of people on a 300 hectares estate that was bought by a friend who loved the idea and passion behind our project. We renovated the entire estate whilst running a hospitality business, a biodynamic farm, the mill, the herbal shop, and… a school

I was living my dream, and our school grew to be one of the biggest homeschooling initiatives in Italy. The "Scuola Della Natura" became a pioneer and an example for many other home schools thriving all over the country.

When this experience ended, after 17 years, my husband and I, together with several other teachers, set our hearts and minds on a new school that would host hundreds of people to learn by experience, in deep connection with the Earth and each other, empowering individuals to choose their own life as free beings and be apart of a collective.

This is where The Transmission School was born. It is the place where we can pass on the knowledge we received from our forefathers and mothers, and connect people with the essence of life. What my grandmother gave to me, I am now passing on to others. This is the greatest gift. You know in Latin, the word education ‘exducere’ actually means “to pull out”, not to “push in”. As teachers, we are taking responsibility to share our experiences and facilitate the unfolding of the lives of our students. We are ourselves also learning from the harmony between us, as we feel connected beyond our roles and institutional forces, which cripple our imagination.

Today, over the rolling hills of Tuscany, we are meeting with people from all walks of life, who are young at heart and willing to learn, to embody ancient knowledge and apply it in our modern contexts. We are working towards freedom and self-responsibility and are revealing the secrets of living. We start to understand our bodies and emotional realities, as well as learning the spiritual and astral sciences, and discovering transcendence and enlightenment. This is meditation in action. We explore the fundamental principles of life and find what makes us wonder, smile and move.

This is free teaching and learning, connecting with the Earth’s heartbeat and transmitting the love for life.
